Wrightsure offers ‘bonding’ alternative

Travel insurance specialist Wrightsure says 10-minute ‘healthcheck’ call could help operators comply with the Package Travel regulations simply and cost-effectively

The UK’s largest independent insurance broker to the UK coach and bus industry, Wrightsure, has reassured operators with a tour offering that its specialist surety insurers continue to provide consumer protection packages.

Some ‘bonding’ schemes are now closing their books, having been exposed heavily during the pandemic, but Wrightsure says its insurance products are still a valid alternative and still available.

“Due to the reduction in insurer capacity facing the industry, a number of businesses have been forced to investigate alternative ways of complying with the Package Travel & Linked Travel Arrangements Regulations 2018 from a consumer protection perspective,” says Andrew Day, Wrightsure’s specialist for this sector.

“Accordingly, we are currently in discussions with a number of leading industry stakeholders to ensure that, where possible, we can provide the UK coach industry with a solution to ensure travel companies are able to trade in a legal and compliant manner. This is particularly important should it transpire the financial failure or bonding route is not the right way forward for them.

“The plight of the coach industry since March is well documented and the unprecedented demise, particularly, of some of our friends in the industry has been heartbreaking to witness.”

Along with the high-profile failure of a number of leading travel companies over the past year the arrival of Covid-19 on UK soil has resulted in a number of insurers taking the decision to withdraw from the Travel Surety Insurance Market. As a result, capacity has significantly reduced.

“As a specialist in the field of specific surety insurance broking to the UK coach & bus industry, I would be delighted to undertake a complimentary review of any operator’s incumbent consumer protection arrangements to see how Wrightsure may be able to be of assistance to them,” says Andrew.

“A ten-minute telephone consultation, without obligation or cost, could be of benefit to them and I would urge anyone to get in touch for an informal chat, to see how I may be able to be of assistance to them.”
