UNVI is to build its SIL double-deck coach model in right-hand drive for the UK market, with a class-leading 97 seats.

The UNVI SIL coach which was exhibited at the last Busworld, in Brussels, is a tri-axle 14m with 67 upper-deck seats and a front-door, wheelchair-accessible lower saloon meeting PSVAR demands. It has a 9m3 luggage capacity.

David McKinless, Sales Manager of UNVI Bus and Coach UK, says he’s planning to import the Iberian-built coach with either Scania or MAN drivelines, and is now seeking expressions of interest from UK operators.

“It’s been a popular product with the intercity operators in left-hand drive, selling 130 to South Korea since its launch, plus four to Israel, and we were asked to look at it by operators who came to Busworld,” David told Bus and Coach Buyer. “So we started work on a right-hand drive at the beginning of the year.”

The SIL will be very competitively priced in its niche, says David, starting at around £320,000. Sales of double-deck coaches in the UK have risen in the last two years, and the SIL may have an additional benefit of being able to accommodate a fairly high number of passengers even with social distancing.
