New version of parts legislation lands

The UK has replaced the EU block exemption for motor vehicles with new legislation which strengthens protection against parts monopoly, ensuring operators can buy OE from independent suppliers.

The block exemption was introduced in 2003 by the EU to prevent vehicle manufacturers monopolising spares supply to get an unfair advantage. In the new legislation – the Competition Act 1998 (Motor Vehicle Agreements Block Exemption) Order 2023 – all aspects of aftermarket supply are covered, including diagnostics software.
