Martijn Gilbert to leave Go Ahead North East

A significant planned restructuring of Go-Ahead North East – still recovering from the passenger slump – has coincided with the decision of Managing Director Martijn Gilbert to leave the company.

Go-Ahead North East is to close Chester-le-Street depot – one of seven it runs – and redeploy staff at other depots. The six remaining depots will be grouped into three areas, led by a new General Manager role, and Go-Ahead North West MD, Nigel Featham, will add GANE to his responsibilities, supported by a new Area Director role.

“As part of this, there is an opportunity for fresh leadership for the next chapter of Go North East’s evolution and, after four enjoyable years here, I have taken the decision [to] move to a new role outside of the Go-Ahead Group from the end of August,” said a letter to staff from Martijn Gilbert.

“I’ll be continuing to lead this important change process with my fellow Director tea,” he said. Additionally, East Yorkshire Buses, which presently reports into Go North East, will become accountable directly to Go-Ahead Group with its present Area Director, Ben Gilligan, promoted to Managing Director.

STOP PRESS: Martijn Gilbert is to join FirstGroup, to lead their Lumo and Hull Trains open access rail operations starting in September.
