Kings Ferry signs up for EU conference

Leaving the European Union is too big an issue for operators to ignore, says the managing director of one of the country’s best-known coach operations.

Ian Fraser, who runs National Express-owned The Kings Ferry, says an upcoming conference on 4 October– Beyond Brexit: Moving People – should inform operators who want to stay a step ahead of change as we leave the European Union.

“Whatever form it takes, Brexit is certain to have an impact on PCV operations, particularly if you employ EU nationals, take vehicles abroad or have significant inbound or outbound tour business, through the Channel ports or to Ireland,” said Ian.

The conference at Volvo UK’s lecture theatre in Warwick tackles post-Brexit employment issues, the likely outcome of a ‘hard’ border both with the European mainland and Ireland, and the possibility of significant changes in the pattern of tourism, both out of the UK and inbound from the EU member states.

“The picture still isn’t clear on driver licensing, which is currently at a pan-European standard allowing UK drivers to travel without hindrance. I think all operators need to stay informed as the UK’s exit from the European Union takes shape, and that’s why I’m attending the conference,” Ian added.

Beyond Brexit: Moving People is jointly organised by Bus & Coach Buyer and leading transport law firm Stone King. It will be opened by keynote speak Norman Baker – the former Under Secretary of State for Transport who became a bus operator – and features an expert view from Stone King’s legal team and from the Tourism Alliance and Silver Travel Advisor – both of which have researched the group tourism market.
