Karsan debuts e-JEST electric minibus at Euro Bus Expo
Karsan debuted its e-JEST 5.8-metre bus at Euro Bus Expo, announcing that it will be distributed by fast-growing West Sussex-based EVM.
The unusual vehicle which is designed for low-capacity, high-frequency services such as DRT, can take as many as 17 people including standees. It sports a BMW motor and 88kWh battery good for 210km range, with a narrow width which can tackle historic streets and steep gradients.
Due to the high driver position, it works best with cashless ‘tap-on’ ticketing.
Karsan has grown to 2,600 employees and has sold more than 1,000 EBs in 23 countries worldwide. e-JEST has 150+ examples running in the USA and Canada, and 700 sold so far. The first right-hand drive examples were built for Japan. It has van-derived independent suspension, claimed to give the ultimate comfort.
Karsan is a leader in autonomous buses, which are now running on public roads in the USA, Netherlands and Switzerland.
