Government snaps up Leon Daniels

Leon Daniels OBE, Chairman of new exhibition ITT Hub, and Vice President of the Chartered Institute of Logistics and Transport, has been appointed to the Government’s Net Zero Board (NZTB), an external advisory board which provides objective and impartial advice on transport decarbonisation to the Department for Transport (DFT).

The NZTB brings together leaders from a range of fields such as behavioural change and policy, as well as experts from several prominent industry sectors, including the environment, science technology and different modes of transport.
The board is chaired by Rt Hon Grant Shapps MP, Secretary of State for Transport and Rachel Maclean MP, Parliamentary Under-Secretary of State for Transport.

The objectives of the board are to provide advice during the development of the transport decarbonisation plan and on reducing greenhouse gas emissions from transport, particularly the longer-term technological and behavioural changes needed to deliver transport’s contribution to net-zero. The remit is also to provide constructive feedback on, and identify risks and opportunities across, the department’s work to decarbonise transport as well as to reinforce the link between government, industry, academia and the wider public.

Leon, former Director of Surface Transport for TfL, said: “I am delighted to be a member of the NZTB, a board with a vast breadth of experience. This is a pivotal moment – with the pandemic having changed working and travel habits, creating cleaner air in our towns and cities, we have the opportunity to fully realise our net-zero ambition. The economic opportunities offered by alternative methods of transport have enormous potential. A cleaner, greener country will create new jobs and help to level up our economy.”

Leon Daniels OBE is Chairman of ITT Hub 12-13 May 2021 at Farnborough International Exhibition and Conference Centre. ITT Hub is new, industry led event showcasing the best in transport innovation and technology for fleet operators, planners and policy makers. The event will host an expected 180 exhibitors across indoor and outdoor displays, a free to attend Future Logistics conference from Logistics UK and a Ride & Drive
