Go South West MD gets MBE
Richard Stevens, Managing Director of Go South West, was awarded an MBE in the New Year Honours for services to transport and to the community.
Richard was appointed Managing Director of Plymouth Citybus in May 2012. Citybus and Go Cornwall bus serves over 30 million passengers a year and is one of the largest public transport providers in the region, employing 950 people and operating a fleet of 350 buses. Richard has over 30 years’ experience of working in the bus industry across the Southwest; having begun his transport career in 1989 as a bus driver in Cornwall.
Among other roles, Richard is the current Chair of the Devon & Plymouth Chamber of Commerce, Chair of the Plymouth Area Business Council, chair of the Plymouth Growth Board chair of Destination Plymouth, a director of the National Marine Park, Heart of the Southwest LEP board member and works within the education environment as the Chair of Governor’s for City College Plymouth and All Saints Secondary School.
Richard said: “I am absolutely thrilled to receive a MBE in the New Year’s Honours, I have been overwhelmed by peoples generous good wishes. To be recognised for both my work in the bus industry and as a community and private sector leader; makes the award even more special, as it demonstrates the importance of businesses and their teams being great community champions. I am so lucky to work with amazing people in all aspects of my life, it is an absolute truth that I would be nowhere without their support; I would like to thank them all as they are heroes in my eyes.”
Richard finishes by saying “My eternal gratitude to Go Ahead Group whose commitment to locally empowered mangers has made everything I have had the privilege to do, achievable; I aim to continue making a difference for people across our community who need help, particularly our emerging younger generations, for many years to come.”
In his spare time if he has any; Richard enjoys sailing, rugby and being a grandad.
