Eminox gets approval for Tourismo retrofit

Eminox has achieved CVRAS certification for a new Tourismo retrofit kit which can take Euro V coaches to Euro VI standards.

Sales Director Carlos Vicente told Bus and Coach Buyer that development of the kit was complex, not only presenting the company with physical engineering challenges but, because Mercedes-Benz uses its own CANbus system, engaging Ricardo to reverse engineer the electronics so the dosing and temperature can be controlled.

Total investment in the system, he said, exceeded £200,000 but with Tourismo being among coaches hardest hit by Euro VI residual deterioration, while being among the most popular coaches when new, creating a large parc of vehicles which currently pay ULEZ fees and will be caught up in the changes to LEZ next October and, potentially, countryside CAZ schemes..

Fitted, the kit is expected to cost between £15,000 and £20,000 and will take two days to install.
