Young Bus Managers Conference returns

Next week’s Young Bus Manager’s Network (YBMN) Conference is now fully-booked with 85 attendees joining.

The event starts at 1pm on 13 October and lasts until the afternoon of 14 October. It was originally scheduled to take place in the spring of 2020 and it marks the return of “in-person” activity for the Young Bus Managers Network.

The Conference is being held at the Royal Beach Hotel opposite the South Parade Pier in Southsea. The keynote speaker on the Thursday morning is Janette Bell, who took over as MD of First Bus at the end of last year. It starts with a tour hosted by First and Hampshire County Council, to show delegates the Portsmouth A3 bus priority scheme plus the Eclipse busway linking Fareham and Gosport, together with a visit to First’s Hoeford depot.

The after-dinner speaker on the Wednesday evening is BBC Transport Correspondent for the South, Paul Clifton.

The event includes a Dragon’s Den style activity, seeing attendees present ideas to a panel of guests to review, including YBMN’s own bus industry experts, Alex Hornby from Transdev and Martijn Gilbert from Go Ahead, together with Peter Shelley from Portsmouth City Council and Louise Collins from Transport Focus.

Chris Cheek will be providing his usual valuable insights and commentary into industry trends for participants while the last item on the agenda is a view from Keith Greenfield, the CEO of Wightlink Ferries.

  • Next year’s Young Bus Managers Conference is due to be held in the spring of 2022 in Cardiff.
