VW introduces Euro6 Crafters

VW has announced the availability of Euro6 engines in some of its Crafter CR 35 and CR50 models. The new engine is being made available in vans and chassis cabs with kerb weights between 2,355kg and 2,815kg. It is only available on CR50s with a medium or long wheelbase and CR35s with the long wheelbase.

The new Euro6 engine is a development of the existing 2.0litre TDI unit used in the Crafter. To achieve Euro6 emission levels VW is using selective catalytic reduction (SCR) as well as the existing exhaust gas recirculation (EGR) system plus a built-in diesel particulate filter. The use of SCR means that for the first time the Crafter will require AdBlue as part of the emission control system.

Two versions of the engine are available, one rated at 163 bhp and the other at 114bhp. The 114bhp version can also be specified with VW’s BlueMotion Technology, which they claim gives fuel economy of up to 35.3 mpg (combined) and emissions of just 210 g/km.

Prices for the new vans range from £28,935 for the 114bhp CR35 LWB to £35,220 for the 163 bhp CR50 LWB Maxi.
