VIDEO: Stagecoach East to stage open day
Vehicle Technicians and Engineers have been invited to an Open Day to find out more about the opportunities at the East’s largest local bus operator.
The Open Day will run from 10.00 to 2.00 on Saturday 6th July at Stagecoach East’s depot in Cambridge. Potential recruits will be shown around the depot and facilities, and will get a feel for what it takes to work on a fleet of modern vehicles – including 32 electric buses – boasting some of the most sophisticated engineering systems in the world, such as the prize-winning ISA safety system.
Modern buses have more microprocessors than a Formula 1 racing car and new electric buses cost over £500,000, so a high quality of professional engineer and vehicle technician is needed to keep the wheels turning.
Stagecoach East has worked hard to improve its reliability figures. Each week it monitors the amount of miles its buses travelled compared to the amount they are scheduled to do. Last week, across its full range in Bedfordshire and Cambridgeshire, it completed over 99.5% of its scheduled miles.
Vince Goane, Engineering Director of Stagecoach East, said: “Vehicle engineering has changed over the years, but the type of people that we are looking for are much the same: technically curious and prepared to ask lots of questions. It does not matter at all what creed or sex you are. I have trained people from all walks of life over the years, the key thing is that you want to learn.
“If you are someone who has experience of fixing things (from cars, vans and trucks to tractors!) we offer the opportunity to be at the leading-edge of technology; to be an integral part of the operation. Our vehicle fleet maintenance and repair teams cover all aspects of vehicle maintenance including mechanical, electrical and body repairs – without Technicians and Engineers, the buses would not operate!
“So, if you are interested in finding out more, then apply for a place to attend the Open Day. It could be the start of an exciting new step in your career.”
