Video shows Buses at their Best

A group of free thinking professionals passionate about making bus travel ever better – known as the Ten Per Cent Club – has released a video on YouTube showcasing Britain’s buses at their best.

The 30 minute documentary has been produced and edited by transport filmmaker Geoff Marshall on behalf of the Club who commissioned him to take an independent look at examples where Britain’s buses are known for being successful as well as talking to those responsible to find out why they are bucking the trend and growing passenger numbers.

Roger French, Secretary of the Ten Per Cent Club, said: “We wanted to showcase Britain’s best bus provision using a contemporary media format and demonstrate it’s irrelevant whether a bus company is privately or publicly owned to successfully grow the market for travel. Furthermore, whatever the regulatory environment, here are the ingredients to make buses attractive to passengers in ever increasing numbers.”

The video features examples from Go South Coast, Harrogate’s route 36, Brighton & Hove, Reading Buses and Centrebus in Hertfordshire and Leicester. It also has interviews with Tom Quay of Passenger about the growing importance of technology when communicating with, and selling to, passengers and design expert Ray Stenning of Best Impressions about the importance of design, attention to detail and being passionate about the bus.

“Many of the examples shown in the video demonstrate how close partnership working between local authorities and bus operators is achieving great results” – Roger French, Secretary of the Ten Per Cent Club

Roger added: “Many of the examples shown in the video demonstrate how close partnership working between local authorities and bus operators is achieving great results, not least in Brighton and Leicester which are two leading examples in the industry of success.”

The video also highlights success with Bus Service Improvement Plan funding in Hertfordshire with the introduction of new route 907 between Stevenage, Ware, Hertford and Cheshunt. Andrew Wickham from Go South Coast also explains the success of his company’s bus routes m1 and m2 providing 16 buses an hour between Poole and Bournemouth on an unprecedented high frequency corridor.

The video is aimed at everyone involved in the provision of buses including stakeholders, politicians and passenger groups as well as those with a general interest in the industry and likely Geoff Marshall’s 350,000 subscribers to his YouTube channel.
