VDL’s new electric wheel-hub drive Citea

VDL Bus & Coach has presented its new Citea with the electrical wheel-hub drive from the German company Ziehl-Abegg (Kunzelsau). The single decker will come with the ZAwheel electric drive as standard in the future. The system requires neither a transmission nor a differential. Previously, it was only used for retrofitting to diesel buses. The technology was featured on the VDL Citea Electric city presented at the UITP in Geneva last month. Ziehl-Abegg received an Energy Globe Award in April for its ZAwheel.
