Van Hool produces funeral coach

Van Hool has collaborated with Dutch operator Koninklijke Beuk to design and produce a funeral coach.

The vehicle has been developed on the basis of Van Hool’s EX11L and is designed to provide the deceased with a serene and intimate mode of transport on their final journey, accompanied by mourners. The tailor-made vehicle has the option to also carry the deceased on board on a bier. The use of coaches to replace a traditional funeral hearse is becoming more common, according to Van Hool.

The coach is able to accommodate the deceased along with 26 mourners. The seating provided includes several seats with tables and a U-shaped seating arrangement to the rear. Tinted windows ensure passenger privacy. Photographs and film footage can be displayed on three onboard screens and there is also the option to play music. As part of the concept, it is also possible to travel a predetermined route past a number of locations that played a role in the life of the deceased.

Van Hool’s EX11L has recently been launched in response to the increasing demand from the market to offer a well-equipped and comfortable vehicle of 11m in length. The vehicles are available in body heights of 3.5m and 3.8m and can accommodate up to 47 passengers, depending on the model. The luggage compartments have a maximum volume of 4.14m2 (EX11 L) and 7.20m2 (EX11 H).
