Transport and travel needs ongoing Covid support, says TSSA

Responding to the Prime Minister’s roadmap to removing lockdown restrictions, transport and travel union TSSA asks what support will be given to both industries while Covid restrictions remain in place.

Manuel Cortes, TSSA General Secretary, said: “While there is light at the end of the tunnel, the Prime Minister today left many industries with ongoing questions and support needs. As we continue to live with coronavirus, capacity on public transport will remain constrained for the foreseeable future while social distancing measures are kept in place.

“The government must make clear how they will support our trains, busses, tube, trams and ferries which are the vital public transport links our country relies on” – Manuel Cortes, TSSA General Secretary

What support will be given to keep them going until social distancing is removed and people can go back to their normal workplaces rather than work from home? And will the government to commit to bringing rail into public ownership where it rightly belongs?

“On travel, what support will the government provide ahead of the report on 12 April? The travel trade has been one of the worst affected industries with a complete shutdown and still no certainty for future booking arrangements.”
