Strikes called off at Go North East

Strikes planned to take place at Go North East have been called off.

The industrial action was due to take place today (12 August 2022). It would have affected routes operating from the Go-Ahead-owned operator’s Chester-le-Street depot that is due to close.

All services continue to operate as normal following the acceptance of a revised offer to staff.

The industrial action was set to involve 170 members of trade union Unite. It was over the company’s plans to close the Chester-le Street garage and permanently move the workers to different depots, some of which are 14 miles away.

The depot closure is intended to help Go North East manage the impact of rising costs and to protect local services for customers who rely on public transport.
