Stagecoach to take over Guernsey’s buses next year

Stagecoach is to expand its services to Guernsey from 1 April 2025, following a tender process. It will see the company take over from Tower Transit-owned CT Plus, the current operator of the island’s buses.

Joining the Stagecoach South West network, the operator will run 20 core public bus routes and 24 school service routes on an initial five-year contract term. There will be no change to the external appearance of the buses which are branded as buses.gg rather than any individual operator.

As part of the transition, 73 staff members are to change over to work for Stagecoach.

“This important and high-profile contract provides us with the opportunity to provide safe, high quality bus services to the Island over the coming years – keeping these communities connected to the people and places that matter most.”

“As part of the tender process they have already identified some areas for improvement in our network” – Deputy Adrian Gabriel, Vice-President of the Committee for the Environment & Infrastructure

Deputy Adrian Gabriel, Vice-President of the Committee for the Environment & Infrastructure, said: “We’re delighted to appoint Stagecoach as our new bus service provider. They are a well-known and established company with vast experience from their multiple contracts held across the UK.

“As part of the tender process they have already identified some areas for improvement in our network, especially around school bus provision, so we look forward to working with them to see how we can continue to improve our bus service and increase bus use.

“We would also like to take this opportunity to thank CT Plus for providing the bus service since they took over in 2012. During this time, we have seen a significant increase in the number of bus passengers, introduced new ticketing systems, continually reviewed and updated routes and seen the introduction of a new bus app. We would also like to thank in particular the staff and drivers for their efforts in maintaining key services for islanders during the Covid pandemic.”
