Simon Lightwood MP visits Stagecoach Barnsley depot

Stagecoach has welcomed Under-Secretary of State for Local Transport, Simon Lightwood MP, to its Barnsley depot. Joining him on his visit was Bus Users UK, South Yorkshire Mayor Oliver Coppard and representatives from local disability user group Transport for All.

The visit was made in support of the Bus Users UK led Catch the Bus Month.

The visit focused on the ongoing efforts to support decarbonisation and improve accessibility across public transport. During the event, guests had the opportunity to experience one of Stagecoach’s new electric buses, which follows the recent announcement that Stagecoach will see its electric fleet expand by an additional 715 buses over the next year.

In addition to decarbonisation, the visit highlighted Stagecoach’s work in ensuring that public transport is accessible for all, particularly in light of new accessibility regulations that came into effect on 1 October 2024.
