Shell and Flix enter alternative fuel agreement

Shell and Flix (the company behind FlixBus) have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) and entered a long-term strategic partnership for the use of alternative fuels on long-distance coaches.

The first project under the new strategic partnership will see Shell and Flix aim at advancing the development and introduction of bio-LNG for the Flix coach fleet. Both companies have set the target of equipping up to 50 Flix coaches with bio-LNG technology within the next two years.

With this partnership, Flix and Shell want to enhance the development and establishment of alternative fuels such as bio-LNG, HVO (hydrogenated vegetable oils) and biodiesel as well as hydrogen and electricity for forward-looking, long-distance coach services. The bio-LNG will be produced from agricultural residuals.

Since both Flix and Shell operate internationally, both companies see great potential in the long-term joint planning and design of the corresponding infrastructure.

We are committed to introducing this technology in our network, as our-long term goal is to achieve carbon neutrality and thus contribute to shaping a new, safer and healthier context for generations to come.”
