Setcar to save Carrier plant?

Carrier, the bodybuilding operation of the French Fast Concept Car group, may yet be saved from liquidation. It was placed into receivership in November last year and a decision on the future of the concern’s plant was due to be made by the Tribunal de Commerce d’Alcon on 20 January 2014. However, four days extra time has been granted for potential buyers to submit their tenders for the troubled company. One such potential buyer is Setcar, the Tunisian Volvo manufacturing partner, which has expressed interest in the plant. Carrier was reported to have accrued EUROS7m in losses over two years.

According to its website, Setcar produces 400 coach and bus units per year, employing 300 people. It is based in Ezzahra in the southern suburb of Tunis. It manufactures city buses, articulated buses, intercity and long distance coaches, airport buses, minibuses, trucks and earth moving equipment. Carrier produces on average 400 buses annually
