Serious fire causes Leicester service disruption

A fire in a former-nightclub in Leicester has caused the city’s new St Margaret’s Bus Station to close temporarily.

The fire is on Church Gate, nearby the station, and has necessitated National Express coaches to leave from St John’s Street and Vectare services from Charles Street. Kinchbus has also notified passengers it is currently unable to access St Margaret’s Bus Station, requesting customers head to the city’s Haymarket Bus Station to use its buses, which remains open.

Drivers are advised by Leicester City Council to avoid the central ring road and surrounding routes including Dysart Way and Belgrave Gate, which are severely congested.

Leicestershire Fire and Rescue reports it is likely to be working on the scene of the fire for the majority of the day.

St Margaret’s bus station was opened in June this year.
