Safer Travel Police’s new recruits
West Midlands Police and British Transport Police have appointed 12 new Special Constables for the Safer Travel team, which deals with crime and anti-social behaviour on public transport in the West Midlands. The volunteers will be the first Specials to have a dedicated role in policing the region’s trains, buses and trams. They hold down a variety of day jobs, including full-time students and bus drivers. The Safer Travel Police Team falls under the Safer Travel Partnership, a collaboration between West Midlands and British Transport Police, Centro (the region’s transport authority) and operators.
