As part of a continuing campaign to grow bus use, Reading Buses has launched its first third party smartcard top-up facility. It has been placed at the Reading University Student Union (RUSU) shop, ‘Campus Central’. After many months of discussion and development with both RUSU and Reading University, the new facility now enables students and staff to top-up their simplyUni cards on campus using equipment supplied by Reading Buses.

Reading Buses CEO, Martijn Gilbert, said, ‘We are actively encouraging people to use the facility. Reading Buses, Reading University and Reading University Students’ Union have a rich history in working closely to explore ways to make bus travel more attractive for staff and students at the University. This has helped generate increases in frequencies on claret 21, including this route becoming a 24/7 service, and has led to a 20% increase in passenger numbers on the combined claret and nineteens services which run through and by the campus.’
