Reading Open Day success

Thanks to visitors who flocked to the Open Day at Reading Buses’ Great Knollys Street depot, more than £6,000 has been raised for the company’s Charity of the Year, Alzheimer’s Society, over than a third more than 2014 and the most ever raised from the event.

The event was well supported by a number of sponsors including Wrightbus, Alexander Dennis Ltd and Ticketer who all contributed financially to the running costs. Outside of the industry, the company was supported by local organisations Glitter and Sparkles face painting and Tilehurst Village Butchers who donated their respective offerings to the cause.

A New Routemaster was loaned by Transport for London and Stagecoach combined, and First lent a traditional open top Routemaster.

Said Martijn Gilbert, Reading Buses Chief Executive Officer: ‘Obviously, we would like to thank our sponsors who have helped to mitigate a large amount of the costs for running an event such as this, meaning more of the money taken on the day can go to our charity of the year.’
