Reading Buses employees are GEMs in 2020

Sparkling frontline heroes from amongst the ranks of a Berkshire-based bus company were officially named today.

Although 2020 wasn’t exactly a ‘gem’ of a year, Reading Buses say there are employees whose performances have been ‘gems’, particularly during the coronavirus pandemic.

And the company want to recognise and thank people who have done something special.

Reading Buses are acknowledging the achievements of their employees in the GEM (Going the Extra Mile) 2020 awards with the announcement of nominations to which customers and employees have contributed.

The special awards scheme was designed especially for the tough year and recognises employees who have made a difference during a challenging 2020.

From engineers to drivers and those in behind-the-scenes roles, the 134 nominations have been widely spread across the operation which has kept Reading and Berkshire moving throughout the toughest lockdown restrictions.

“But we couldn’t let this difficult year pass without thanking and recognising the hard work and dedication of our wonderful employees” – Robert Williams, Reading Buses

As the nominations were announced today, Robert Williams, Reading Buses Chief Executive Officer, said: “There is no question that 2020 was an exceptionally tough year.

“But we couldn’t let this difficult year pass without thanking and recognising the hard work and dedication of our wonderful employees.

“Due to coronavirus we have been unable to hold our annual Star of the Year awards so the GEM awards is the next best way for us to recognise all the amazing work that has been achieved by our employees – so much against the odds.

“Employees have all given their very best and have certainly gone the extra mile for our customers and equally importantly for each other as well – their performances have been unprecedented.

“All the entries were not only brilliant, but shining examples of what can be achieved, and have truly exemplified the qualities we look for in our employees.

“Nominations in all 12 categories, covering every aspect of the business, fully recognise commitment to Reading Buses, dedication to individual roles and utmost professionalism.”

Added Robert: “From the engineering team who keep the buses running and the bus drivers who have continually delivered unrelenting customer focus through to the behind-the-scenes office staff – the final nominations list recognises Team Reading Buses at its best.”

The categories employees have been nominated for are Customer Choice, Driver’s Choice, Driving Hero, Working Together, Being Caring, Engineering Hero, Service Delivery Hero, Support Hero, Rising Star and Unsung Hero with a surprise special recognition award.

Winners will be announced on Reading Buses’ social media between January 27- February 2. The company asks customers to keep an eye out to see who are the deserving winners.
