Operators invited to IOTA training centre opening

All operators are invited to the official opening of the Institute of Transport Administration’s (IOTA) new training centre in Bedfordshire this weekend.

The event, on Saturday 27 July, also marks the 40th anniversary of Cozy’s Travel – on whose site the train centre is located – as well as the 80th anniversary of IoTA.

Founded in 1944, the Institute retains its original objectives, dedicating its purpose to career development in the practice of transport management.

The day will see Senior Traffic Commissioner Richard Turfitt perform the official opening ceremony of the new training centre, before giving a presentation alongside Laura Hadzik, Head of the Commercial Road Transport at legal firm JMW.

The informal relaxed event will see a number of other presentations. They will include updates from Caroline Hicks, DVSA Head Regulatory Services and Transformation and Phil Breen, Earned Recognition National Account Manager at DVSA.

There will also be a display of a DVSA ‘stop’ vehicle and a chance to see new technology as DVSA demonstrates its Hades-5 (S) under-vehicle inspection robot.

Other exhibits will include a vintage coach from Dews Coaches of Huntingdonshire, and the UK’s first hybrid coach from Cozy Travel’s fleet. An electric lorry and a Routemaster bus have also been invited.

The event is at Cozy Travel, 6 Gateshead Close, Sandy SG19 1RS, from 10.30am (for an 11am start) and closes at 4pm.

  • All operators are welcome and to manage numbers, guests are asked to pre-register by contacting IoTA at [email protected] or calling 0207 167 3271.
