Obituary – Wim van der Leegte, VDL
VDL Groep owner, Wim van der Leegte, has passed away.
He died of natural causes at home in his hometown of Duizel on the night between 18 to 19 November 2023. He was 76 years old.
A statement from the van der Leegte family said: “We are deeply saddened by this sudden loss. First of all, Wim has been a wonderful husband, father and grandfather to us. We feel strengthened by the many expressions of sympathy and would like to thank everyone for this. Our dad had great significance for many.”
VDL Groepe was founded by Wim’s father, Pieter van der Leegte, in 1953. In November 2016, it was announced Wim was stepping down from the business as President. Wim’s three children, Pieter, Jennifer and Willem, own 100% of the shares of VDL Groep.
