New operator Northstar launches in north east

A new operator has started in the north east.

With an O licence for three vehicles, two registered at Stanley Travels’ yard and one in Gateshead, Northstar started work on 29 March. Its first job was a Tyne & Wear Metro Replacement service in operation between Heworth and South Gosforth, while track junction renewal work took place in Metro tunnels under Newcastle city centre.

The operation is wholly owned and managed by Daniel Graham, who previously led Go North East’s commercial team.

A Euro V ALX400 has been purchased for the operation, which is the first vehicle in the company’s fleet to carry its specially designed branding, created by Best Impressions.

Managing Director for Northstar, Daniel Graham, saidd: “We’ve worked with the industry’s leading design, branding and marketing agency, Best Impressions, to create our new brand.

“With such bold ambitions to lead the way, we need our buses to win the hearts and minds of the local people here in the North East.

“I’m exceptionally proud to have worked with Best Impressions to create a smart, clean and contemporary brand, which helps to communicate Northstar’s visions and values.”

Daniel has set out four key values in his vision for Northstar:

  • People – our customers, communities and our colleagues are at the heart of everything we do, so we put people first.
  • Performance – we have ambitious goals to raise the bar and lead the way with high operational and safety standards in delivering bus and coach services.
  • Partnership – we believe that building strong relationships with our stakeholders is pivotal to delivering sustainable public transport with a positive social impact.
  • Proactive – to be continually successful, we must listen to our customers, adapt and make changes, and strive for perfection.

“Northstar is a ‘people moving people’ company, and we want to keep the customer at the heart of everything we do” – Daniel Graham

Daniel said: “I’ve grown up using public transport to get around the North East, which is why I am passionate about delivering a high-quality transport operation myself.

“Northstar is a ‘people moving people’ company, and we want to keep the customer at the heart of everything we do.

“I’m looking forward to operating buses in our region’s fantastic towns and cities – I am proud to be giving back to the people and communities that we will serve.”

I wouldn’t want to do anything other than encourage ambition, innovation and quality, but it’s few operators who create a ‘brand’, invest in marketing and communicating the company values, aim to win hearts and minds and claim to be ‘leading the way’ when they have an O license of 3 vehicles and the only operations mentioned are rail replacement work. The must have very significant expansion plans that they are confident in.
