No-deal Brexit warning for operators
With the threat of a no-deal Brexit looming, the Government has updated its briefing on taking coaches overseas.
The latest briefing says that, in the event of a no-deal Brexit, the UK will join the Interbus agreement for occasional (not scheduled) EU travel, and visits to Albania, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Macedonia, Montenegro, Moldova, Turkey and Ukraine – also covered by Interbus.
Under Interbus, the driver will need a certified copy of the company’s Standard International Operator Licence and an Interbus waybill, which will be available from the Confederation of Passenger Transport. Additionally, the vehicle must display a GB sticker, and the driver will need the vehicle V5C and VE103 hire certificate to show the operator is allowed to used a hired or leased vehicle abroad. Even in the event of a no-deal Brexit, existing scheduled services will be unaffected until 31 December, but new authorisations or renewals of service will not be available after 31 October. This must be done before 31 October, via the details at https://is.gd/owofqp
It is expected that, eventually, Interbus will cover scheduled services. However, cabotage (the carriage of passengers between two points in the EU) will not be possible after Brexit if no deal is agreed.
