Free Beverley coach parking for Festival
East Riding of Yorkshire Council is offering free parking, together with a meet and greet service, for coach operators wishing to attend the Festival of Christmas in Beverley on 13 December. Last year’s event attracted 40 coaches to the town for the all-day event. Coach operators must book in advance to take advantage of the free parking, which will be available in the School Lane coach park in the town centre. Transdev’s Christmas switch on fare
Transdev Lancashire United is to charge a special £1 return bus fare for services to Blackburn’s Christmas lights ‘switch on’ on 19 November. The operator has joined forces with switch on organisers Blackburn BID (Business Improvement District) and Blackburn with Darwen Borough Council to run the offer. The fare is being offered in an attempt to help tackle congestion on one of the town’s busiest nights of the year.
Road deaths down
For the year ending June 2015, road deaths decreased to 1,700, down by 2% compared to the year ending June 2014, according to the Office of National Statistics’ latest figures. There were 22,830 killed or seriously injured (KSI) casualties, a 7% decrease compared with the previous year, as well as 180,500 reported road casualties of all severities, 7% lower. Motor traffic levels rose by 2.3% compared with the same period last year, whilst the overall casualty rate per vehicle mile decreased by 9%.
