New Telford bus station planned
Telford & Wrekin Council and Arriva Midlands are consulting local residents on plans for a new bus station in Telford town centre. Replacement of the existing ‘outdated and underutilised’ facility is proposed. The new site is expected to provide better facilities for passengers and will still be in a central location, with easy access to and from the Shopping Centre as well as the new Southwater, Southern Quarter and ASDA developments. It also unlocks new development opportunity on the existing
bus station site.
The redevelopment is part of a £200m plan for the regeneration of Telford Shopping Centre. The new bus station will be located at the southern end of the existing Brown Elm car park and will provide a new, improved facility for passengers. The existing facility will remain open while the new one is built to minimise disruption. Telford & Wrekin Council has secured £1.3m through The Marches Local Enterprise Partnership Growth Deal to make the change.
Telford & Wrekin Council’s cabinet member for Communities, Regeneration and Transport, Cllr Angela McClements, said, ‘The funding provides us with a fantastic opportunity to provide a modern town centre bus station while freeing up the existing site for the Shopping Centre to create new retail opportunities and create new jobs. We are very much looking forward to hearing the views of residents on the proposed new location for the bus station and to understand what they want to see in a new bus station so that this can be fed into the design process.’
