New consultancy for electric vehicle adoption
A former Tower Transit manager who has latterly worked at electric drive giant Ballard Power Systems has set up an independent consultancy to help operators plan for zero-emission vehicles.
David Yorke MSc CEng is at the helm of Future Zero Emission, bringing his vast experience to bear on the often unforeseen planning that moving to battery-electric or hydrogen fuel cell vehicles entails: “There are challenges over and above the routine which, at First Bus then Tower Transit, I encountered and resolved,” David told Bus & Coach Buyer.
David has been involved with both the EU’s ZEUSS and eMOTION projects, and was among the first senior technology managers to work with hydrogen fuel cell buses. That said, he has a ‘passion’ for all zero-emission technology: “Above all, I want the transition to go smoothly,” he told Bus & Coach Buyer.
David says that electric vehicles and electric depots bring their own challenges: “Even in the bus sector, a relatively small number of operators have electric buses – running them is quite different to running diesels. For most fleets, there is still a long way to go.”
