New buses for ‘Fab 56’

A fleet of 17 new Volvo B9TL Wrightbus Eclipse Geminis has been introduced on Go North East’s ‘Fab 56’ service. They represent an investment of almost £3m in the service that links Sunderland, Hylton Castle, Concord, Gateshead and Newcastle. They are fitted with free onboard Wi-Fi, power sockets and features next stop announcements and displays. The new buses have been on a promotional tour along with ‘roller skating hippies’, with the bus visiting Sunderland, Gateshead and Newcastle. As well as bus information, customers were given double decker chocolate bars and free bus shaped scratchcards, whilst children were entertained by face painters and balloon modellers.

Marketing and Sales Manager at Go North East, Stephen King, said, ‘We’ve seen more and more people using our Fab 56 route and the new double deckers give us the extra seats we need to meet demand. The Fab 56 is a great alternative to the car, with buses running up to every ten minutes during the day and frequently during the evening and Sunday too, plus it’s great value as you can travel all week from Concord to Newcastle for only £18. We’ve had some really great feedback from our customers since the buses began entering service and we look forward to welcoming everyone on board.’
