NCT goes back to Pelican for electric buses

Pelican Bus + Coach has received a further order from Nottingham City Transport, for 14 more Yutong single-deck electric vehicles.

Thanks to a successful ZEBRA bid with Nottingham City Council, NCT currently has 24 battery-electric Yutong single-deckers on the road. The operator recently celebrated 250,000 zero-emission kilometres.

Now, a further batch of 24 vehicles will be delivered in early 2025. NCT is on track to have a fully-electric single-deck fleet within the next 18 months, with an further 14 vehicles ordered this month for 2026 delivery.

Sean O’Sullivan, Head of Engineering for NCT commented: “The first 24 vehicles have performed really well. We have seen energy efficiency increase by 10% as we have undergone an extensive driver training course during the vehicles implementation into our operations.

“Passenger and driver feedback has been excellent, with extremely positive reaction to the customer-centric features we implemented with Pelican and Yutong. The importance of having vehicles provided and supported by the same team was a key feature for our decision.”

Ian Downie, Head of Yutong UK at Pelican said: “The NCT team challenged us to further develop a vehicle that built upon our tried, tested and proven technology. They were the first to request full-colour destination screens, revised passenger information systems, swept handrails, NCT specified seats and flooring. This resulted in excellent passenger feedback on these features, as well as our standard full air conditioning and industry leading safety features.

“We are absolutely delighted and honoured to receive this additional order, and have 100% of NCT’s single deck fleet with Pelican.”
