NatEx leaving Guild of British Coach Operators

National Express is leaving the Guild of British Coach Operators. The company has announced it is not renewing its membership.

“We remain of the view that the Guild is a well-run organisation representing many of the best operators in the UK and we wish them well” – National Express

A spokesperson for National Express commented on the decision: “As a multi-national, multi-modal transport operator, we have decided not to renew membership of the Guild of British Coach Operators, as we recognise we have significantly different challenges to those faced by independent operators. We remain of the view that the Guild is a well-run organisation representing many of the best operators in the UK and we wish them well.”

“This decision is therefore in the best interests of the Guild and ensures continuation of the unique benefits of sharing in which the Guild excels” – Steve Whiteway, Guild Administrator

Steve Whiteway, the Guild’s Administrator, said: “We are naturally sorry to lose our National Express Group members and wish them well. However, the ethos of the Guild is very much about sharing best practice and data. This has not always proved possible, of necessity, given the very different way a plc operates compared to the independent coach sector following the sale of formerly independent operator members to National Express.  This decision is therefore in the best interests of the Guild and ensures continuation of the unique benefits of sharing in which the Guild excels.”
