Merron leaves Bus Users for new role

Chair of Bus Users UK, Gillian Merron, is to leave the passenger watchdog and take up a new role as Chief Executive of the Board of Deputies of British Jews, the voice of the Jewish community in Britain. During her time with the organisation, it has become the designated body for passenger complaints under EU Passenger Rights Legislation in 2014 and launched Bus Users Scotland in 2013. She also oversaw the appointment of a new Chief Executive, Claire Walters, who was tasked with undertaking a full strategic review of the organisation. Gillian takes up her new post in July, before which she will be chairing the Bus Users’ Annual General Meeting in Edinburgh on 17 May.

Gillian said, ‘I am proud of the unprecedented advance made by Bus Users in becoming a more effective champion. The changes made leave the organisation ever stronger as a professional representative of bus passengers and a clear voice to the industry, and to decision makers at all levels of government. I value the support and friendship I have received, and remain committed to the practical view that bus services are vital to people and to prosperity across the UK.’
