MAN moving bus chassis production
MAN Truck & Bus is implementing a programme of change in an effort to strengthen its business. One of the main focuses of the programme is realigning the production locations and streamlining administrative areas. As part of this programme, bus and coach chassis manufacture will be relocated to Ankara in Turkey from Salzgitter in Germany. By the end of 2017, it is expected that the strategic programme will have significantly overcompensated for the one-off expenditure necessary in 2015. This is planned to be achieved through cost savings and profit optimisations.
Spare parts/Logistics will be completely transferred from Munich to Salzgitter as part of the realignment. The latter site will not only be developed into a parts logistics centre but also a component and re-manufacturing plant. The manufacturer is to ‘streamline’ its indirect areas, which will primarily be carried out through voluntary redundancies, semi-retirement and not re-filling positions should they become vacant. This will involve approximately 1,400 management positions and 400 indirect production areas. The business rules out any compulsory redundancies as well as any site closures.
