Keenan Coaches of Ayr enters liquidation

Ayrshire-based Keenan of Ayr Coach Travel has entered liquidation.

Operated by husband and wife, Jamie and Sandra Keenan, the company went into liquidation earlier this month. It follows over 60 years of coach hire provision to its area.

According to press reports, staff were stunned at finding they would lose their jobs as a result of the liquidation. The same reports say cash flow issues were a factor behind the closure.

Keenan held a Standard National licence for 18 vehicles.

South Ayrshire Council has informed Bus and Coach Buyer that Keenan of Ayr had informed it earlier this month that it was unable to fulfil its 14 mainstream school transport contracts, affecting eight schools and 580 pupils.

A Council spokesperson said: “In conjunction with colleagues at SPT, we acted quickly to source alternative transport operators, with all 14 runs replaced and confirmed on Monday 14 February.

“Notifications were issued to the affected schools, as well as all parents and carers, updating them on the relevant change of school transport operator on Tuesday 15 February.

“The new contracts put in place were operational from Wednesday 16 February 2022, following the school holiday, with no break in service.”

Bus and Coach Buyer has contacted Keenan Coaches and the liquidators but at the time of publishing had not received a response.
