Islands’ first ‘deckers delivered
Alexander Dennis has delivered three Enviro400s to Isle of Lewis-based Lochs Motor Transport this year, with two more now on order.
The last of three newly-built Enviro400, each seating 85 passengers and offering low-floor access for wheelchair users, was recently handed over to the Scottish operator at the Alexander Dennis factory in Scarborough. They are the first double-deckers ever to be operated in Lewis and Harris.
They were bought following the award of a new contract to supply a shuttle service for ship cruise passengers visiting the Western Isles, linking Stornoway’s new deep water terminal to the town centre. Their extra capacity will also be useful on busy school services.
“The Alexander Dennis Enviro400 is great value for money for a high-capacity vehicle” – Lochs Motor Transport Director, Roddy MacDonald
Lochs Motor Transport Director, Roddy MacDonald, said: “The Alexander Dennis Enviro400 is great value for money for a high-capacity vehicle that is easy to maintain and operate. Visitors can appreciate the beauty of the Western Isles through panoramic windows from comfortable seats, and we’re more easily able to accommodate large numbers of customers, which is why we’ve ordered a further two double deckers for next year.”
“I’m grateful for the trust placed in Alexander Dennis when Lochs Motor Transport chose us to supply their first ever double-deckers after buying Plaxton coaches for many years” – Lee Gibson, Regional Sales Manager for Alexander Dennis
Lee Gibson, Regional Sales Manager for Alexander Dennis, added: “I’m grateful for the trust placed in Alexander Dennis when Lochs Motor Transport chose us to supply their first ever double-deckers after buying Plaxton coaches for many years. We look forward to continuing to support Roddy and his team next year with another pair of Enviro400 double deckers for cruise ship services, the port authority, schools and private hire.”
