IRTE Skills Challenge – here come the winners
The IRTE’s Bus & Coach Skills Challenge contest is over, and the pick of the best made.
In the current environment, keeping the wheels turning safely and effectively is more crucial than ever. Vehicles are becoming more complex and the skills demanded of the workshop teams continue to increase. Fortunately, those in the front line are rising to this challenge and some of the best from across the UK had the opportunity to participate in the IRTE Bus and Coach Skills Challenge 2024 held at S&B Automotive Academy in Bristol early in June. The results are now in and the winners were presented with their awards at the British Motor Museum last week.
Highlights from the awards include Go-Ahead picking up the Outstanding Apprentice Team Award with Stagecoach West named the Outstanding Qualified Team. Turning to individuals, participants from a wide range of companies collected awards from whom the Judges Choice recognition went to Neave Sproson (Apprentice) and Hasan Girach (Qualified). Neave, one of the growing number of female participants, is a Third Year Mechelec Apprentice with National Express based at West Bromwich garage and had earlier collected the Electric Driveline Apprentice award. Taking the Bodywork Technician award earlier, Hasan Girach is part of the team at First’s Leicester garage and a previous award recipient as an apprentice.
