IoW Tours MD goes live for coaching

Shirley Winn of Isle of Wight Tours has scored success campaigning for coach tourism with a radio blitz which saw her speaking to the BBC

Isle of Wight Tours managing director Shirley Winn has just hit the airwaves on behalf of the coach tour industry in broadcasts all over the country on BBC local radio.

Shirley has been very active in working with the press on the Isle of Wight as well as Visit Isle of Wight and the Isle of Wight Chamber of Commerce, plus working with local MP Bob Seely and being a regular on many Zoom meetings.

“So when the BBC contacted the Coach Tourism Association for someone in the business to talk about the situation facing coach holidays, she seemed like a natural, which is exactly what she turned out to be,” said a spokesman for the Coach Tourism Association.

The news blitz saw Shirley talking, both live and recorded, on different BBC local radio station shows covering the Solent area, Shropshire, Nottinghamshire, Lancashire, Leicestershire, Sussex and Surrey and Cornwall. All in a single day.

I was a bit nervous at first because I didn’t know what they were going to ask me. But each interview was different so I could cover many different sides of our business,” she said.

Topics covered by Shirley ranged over everything from the different markets served by coach holidays, the way in which her customers became friends on holidays, the value of coach holidays to the UK attractions and accommodation providers, their strong eco credentials and, in the current circumstances, the need to build back confidence in customers for the future.
