Hull bus lanes to go back to peak-time only
Hull’s bus lanes are to return to peak-time operation only.
The move follows a citywide transport survey conducted last summer, which saw around 65% of Hull-based respondents say they thought bus lanes should revert to peak-times only.
As the road layout was altered when bus lanes were changed to all day operation, the council must now draw up detailed designs of what the road would look like if peak-time operation were restored, before any change can be implemented.
Currently, bus lanes in Hull operate between 7am and 6.30pm.
Hull City Council’s Cabinet has now approved proposals to begin drawing up the designs. Under UK Government guidelines, the designs will then be subject to a formal statutory process.
Cllr Mike Ross, Leader of Hull City Council, said: “The clear message we got from last summer’s transport survey was that most people wanted to see a return to peak-hours bus lanes.
“We have listened, and now we’re taking action.
“As soon as plans are drawn up, we will make sure the public can see what the revised road layout will look like.
“We are determined to listen to residents’ views on this issue.”
