Health Bus comes to Dundee

Employees at Xplore Dundee (National Express’s Dundee bus operation) have been offered free health checks as National Express’s Health Bus initiative visits the Scottish garage. It involves staff being able to have confidential appointments on site with an independent health professional. A range of checks are offered and advice on various health-related matters is dispensed, including tests for blood pressure, eyesight and blood sugar, an ECG monitor and general dietary and fitness requirements. The health team regularly travel throughout the National Express UK Bus division, stopping at garages throughout the West Midlands and Coventry. In August, the Health Bus won the Best Health and Wellbeing Strategy in the national Workplace Savings and Benefits Awards.

Xplore Dundee MD, Elsie Turbyne, said, ‘It’s fantastic that we can provide a way for our workforce to get themselves checked and ensure they’re in the best health they can be. This initiative has been welcomed and well supported by employees throughout the business and has already proved to be a potential life-saver for a number of people who have had urgent health issues identified by the team and were then able to seek further attention from their own doctors. I would urge other businesses to follow suit and offer a similar service – it’s something which we are proud to provide and is proving extremely beneficial to our people.’
