Hardy to ‘not give up’ supporting coach sector

Despite being told no sector specific support for the coach industry is currently imminent, Hull West and Hessle MP, Emma Hardy, has vowed to continue mounting pressure on the Government to support the sector.

In response to the concerns raised about the coach industry in Government, a letter addressed to CPT CEO, Graham Vidler and Ms Hardy, outlined the existing support packages for businesses currently available. It went on to state the Government is not prepared to provide any further support for the coach industry.

The letter said: “Unfortunately, based on the evidence available, the Government is not currently prepared to provide a specific aid to trade grant or further financial measures for the coach sector beyond the generous economy-wide package of measures. The pandemic has had a considerable impact on the country’s public finances, and as a result the bar for bespoke sector support is very high. The extensive cross-economy support measures the Government has put in place are designed to support firms and sectors of any size.”

The letter was signed by John Glen, Economic Secretary to the Treasury and City Minister.

In a post on Facebook in response to the letter, Emma said: “After meeting with the Exchequer Secretary, it looks like the government is not prepared to offer any further help to the coach industry at this time. But I shall call for another debate, we will keep going, keep the pressure on and we shall not give up.”
