Grant Palmer celebrates year of busway service

Bedfordshire-based Grant Palmer is celebrating a year of operation of its Houghton Regis busway service.

The Hi route runs daily, up to every hour, serving customers at Houghton Regis North. Buses use the Luton and Dunstable guided busway to provide quick links to Luton as well as nearby employment at the White Lion Retail Park.

In the first year of operation the service has carried over 60,000 people, taking hundreds of cars off the road and giving residents a quick link to Luton and Dunstable.

Thomas Manship, Commercial Manager for Grant Palmer, said: “We’re pleased to work with Central Bedfordshire Council to deliver our Hi busway service. The route continues to grow, providing a great value way to travel. We’re beginning to look at exciting plans to further improve the service later in the year.”

Double-deckers operate the route, providing a journey time between Luton and Dunstable of just 12 minutes.

That number seems like less than 20 people per journey. Nothing to really write home about in itself. Less so if you consider how many might have or used other busway services or even taken numbers from them.
