Free wi-fi on York P&R

A partnership agreement between The City of York Council and First has provided free wi-fi across a number of the city’s services, including all of its park and ride routes. Forty seven of First York’s vehicles have been fitted with the free wi-fi thanks to a grant of £320k awarded to the council by the Department for Culture, Media and Sport (DCMS), as part of York’s status as one of 22 SuperConnected Cities. The equipment will remain the property of the council for two years, with First managing the service, with the option to purchase after this period.
Business Manager for First York, Will Pearson, said, ‘We’re delighted to be working in partnership with City of York Council to provide free wi-fi for our customers. As well as great value fares and a convenient service, Park & Ride customers can now surf the internet, catch up with friends on social media, check emails or shop online – attracting even more people out of their cars onto public transport.’
