First makes travel cheaper for youngsters
First bus has introduced a new £10 week ticket for people aged 16 to 18 across Greater Manchester from 5 January 2014. The introduction of the new FirstWeek 16-18 ticket is based upon market research conducted by the operator to identify ways to attract more young people onto bus services. As a result, it is being made available to everyone in the age group, not just those in education. It is in addition to the half-fare travel between school and college with the Scholar’s Concessionary Permit, issued by TfGM, or the multi-operator System One Young Persons ticket. It is also available as a phone app.
Head of Commercial for First in Greater Manchester, Ian Humphreys, said, ‘We’re delighted to extend our range of great value tickets with this innovative new ticket for young people available to all 16-18 year olds, not just those in education. First is growing customers across Greater Manchester and we want to help support young people and encourage even greater use of public transport.’
