Express licence denied
Nick Jones, the Traffic Commissioner for Wales, has refused to grant Express Motors (Caernarfon) Ltd a passenger transport licence, concluding that the business fell “well short” of meeting the requirements. The request for the licence was made by Mrs Rhian Wyn Davies, the daughter of former owners, Eric and Jean Jones, whose brothers Kevin and Ian ran the original Express Motors, which lost its licence.
In a written decision, the industry regulator also cited safety concerns, including a wheel loss, and the illegal operation of vehicles. He felt that he could not see ‘clear blue water’ between the new applicants and the former family members whose licence had been revoked.
He remarked: “The response to the wheel loss reflected a dangerously low standard of care in relation to public safety.”
