Excel Conversions out of business

Excel Conversions has gone into receivership with the loss of all jobs at the Doncaster factory.

The converter – which was selling LDV-based minibuses for Pelican Engineering at this year’s Euro Bus Expo – was being touted for sale by co-director Peter Vernon this summer. It is now being administered by James Annerson, of Seneca Insolvency Practitioners of Matlock.

Excel, built from the rump of Crystal Conversions, traded from a modern factory unit in Armthorpe. It celebrated its 20th anniversary this year, and in May, Peter Vernon reassured buyers: “Customers have nothing to worry about. Excel is in a good position. It is profitable and has a good order book.”

At the time of going to press, Bus and Coach Buyer had been unable to speak to the directors – who include Matthew Flett and Shelley McQuade – or to Seneca IP.

  1. Shame to see them how will take it over now

I have know Peter, Shelley & Matthew for around 18 years and purchased my first new coach off them in 2003 since then I had at least 15 others including a lovely 22 seat Mercedes Sprinter this September.

I was sad to here the news that they were no longer in business. Their build quality is the best in the industry in my opinion. I have never had any issues with any of their coaches and I still own one Vario which is 10 years old and still the in same condition as it was when it left Excel’s workshop.

They were one big happy family who put customers first whilst ensuring that their staff were well cared for too.

I know it’s not been easy times for any business over the past few years, I know from experience there as been delays on base vehicles arriving from the manufacturers through no fault of Excel, I am sure this didn’t help matters.

My thoughts are with them all and will be truly missed in the industry. (John Ludlow)

  3. Hello,

i didn’t know whether or not you guys were currently buying Battery to Battery Chargers from us.

If not who would be the best person to talk to?

It’s regarding the charging issues inherent in Euro 6 vehicles with poor charging and maintenance of the service battery.

Sterling do a Battery to Battery charging device that provides a reliable charge onto the service battery whilst driving.

Would it be possible to arrange a meeting with one of our representatives?

    Kind regards
